Willie Lee Haynes

Willie Lee Haynes, 83, of Durham, NC, passed away on August 29, 2026. He was born in Gifford, SC, on August 27, 1943. He was a devoted father, a dedicated mentor, an passionate educator, and a proud military veteran.

He honorably served six years in the U.S. Army from June 17, 1961, until June 16, 1967. Achieving the rank of E-6 Staff Sergeant, he was honored with the Good Conduct Medal, Marksman (Rifle) badge, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Dedicated to lifelong learning, he earned both an Associate and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, followed by his MBA from Southeastern University. He used his expertise to build a diverse career as a banker and later as a self-employed business owner, operating a real estate agency and a retail collections firm until his retirement in 2016. Outside of work, he lovedpublic speaking, history, and sports. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse and daughter.
