Tony William McNeil (Big Mac) was born to the late Booker T. McNeil and living mother Cassie Bell McNeil on July 6, 1959 in Baltimore Maryland. He departed this life on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Duke Regional Hospital.
He moved to North Carolina at the age of 5 where he was educated in Durham Public Schools. He excelled in all sports: football, basketball and baseball. He was employed with Goldkist and later with Dominion Energy where he retired in 2019.
Tony loved to be involved with anything that included family: cookouts, hunting, fishing and long leisurely drives. He loved his grandkids who he was known to as “PaPa”- they could get anything they wanted from him. He was a father figure to everyone, he was always there for those who needed him. Tony loved to sing in the male chorus and with his siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Mary McNeil (Wife); two sons, Derrick Johnson (Amanda) of Durham NC and Tony Jamar McNeil of Durham NC; one daughter, Tierra McNeil (Shaun) of Durham NC; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; three sisters, Wanda Toomer of Mebane and Linda Faye Thompson (Joseph) of Mebane NC and Vanessa Johnson of South Carolina; five brothers, Paul McNeil (Jean) and Kenny McNeil of Durham NC; Marlow McNeil of Mebane NC, Calvin McNeil of New Jersey and Aaron McNeil of Florida; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Tony is preceded in death: two brothers, Wayne McNeil and Oscar McNeil; one sister, Darlene Thompson.
