Shirley Jean Daniels, 81 of Rocky Mount, NC passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 27 at Transitions Life care.
Shirley was born in Walstonburg, NC July 22, 1943, to the late John Johnson jr and Mary Bell Rogers. She attended H.B. Suggs High school and received her degree from the Edgecombe Technical Institute. She later was licensed as an early childhood educator where she owned and operated her home daycare
"Sharell's Daycare".
Shirley, known as Mom, grandmom, sister, Aunt Shell and the
"Big cheese" made it happen for her family and anyone who encountered her. She would greet everyone with that big smile and her oh so famous "ness ness" hugs. Shirley was a devoted member, mother, usher and secretary of the St. James Free will Baptist church until her health declined.
She enjoyed being with family and believed that nothing was more important. Family reunions were her and her late baby sister Ruth time to shine; they told you when, where and how things would happen and never missed a beat! Shirley was never a stranger to hard work but made sure she was home in time for her games shows, she was a devoted watcher of Jeopardy, wheel of fortune and family feud. Shirley loved to travel and always dreamed of going to Hawaii! Although she never made it to Hawaii, she most definitely got to see many parts of the world from traveling to Buffalo to see her niece get married to annual visits to Maryland to visit her sis Dot, beach trips with her church mothers or a Caribbean cruise with her kids! She was known for so many of her sayings that only she could put together! If you know, you know! She loved shopping and it wasn't a Sunday she didn't grace these doors with a suit with the matching hat that would make God himself smile! She was fly and she knew it, she would tell you "Keep yourself up, never look like what you're going through". She will truly be missed.
She was Preceded in death by her husband Jessie Daniels, parents John and Mary Bell Johnson, her brothers Johnny Earl Johnson and Emmanuel Johnson and her sisters Mary Elizabeth Walker and Mary Ruth White. She is Survived by her daughter Angela Moye' of Durham NC, stepson Kelvin Daniels (Serena) of Antioch, CA, grandson Quentin Moye, granddaughter Sharell Charles (Lawrence) and her great granddaughter Parker Elise all of Durham, NC. 1 sister Doris Owens (Herbert) of Glenn Dale, Maryland and 2 brothers Harry Johnson (Mary Ann) and Phil Johnson both of Rocky Mount, NC.
A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends!
