Rita Mitchell

Rita Mitchell-Thompson was born on December 28, 1965, in Morristown, New Jersey, to parents Betty and Willy Mitchell. She passed away on April 18, 2025, to eternal rest.

Rita was a member of Faith Assembly Church in Durham and had transferred her membership to Jesus City Church under the leadership of Pastor Dupsy Omotosho. She attended North Carolina Central University, where she earned two degrees: one in Early Childhood Education and a bachelor's degree in science.

Rita had a distinguished career, working at Target for 15 years before concluding her career at University Ford and Kia dealership in Durham, North Carolina.

She is survived by her husband, Terrance Thompson; son, D'Juan Mitchell; sisters, Camelia Thompson and Anita Moore; brothers, Alonza and Michael; and four grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
