Rev. Johnnie Mae Riddick,76, of Durham, NC, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, by her side was her loving grandson, Christopher, who cared for her for the last three years of her life.
Johnnie Mae (Patterson) Riddick was born January 29, 1949 in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Craig and John Henry Patterson.
Johnnie was an ordained minister who enjoyed serving the Lord. She was a member of Gateway to Heaven UHC, Inc.
Johnnie retired in 1988 from Elmhurst Hospital in New York and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009.
Johnnie and Vernon were married on May 20, 1965, from this union, they leave to cherish their memory are five children, Stephanie Turner, Cynthia Riddick-Taborn (Teddy), Christina Hayden (Kynen) Hayden, Veronica Williams (Rodney), Vernon Riddick, Jr. Eight grandchildren, Charles Riddick, Christopher Riddick, Demetris Scott, Dequan Robinson, Martez Riddick, Kynen Hayden, Jr., Jenai Barbee, Ny’aysia Barbee, 13 great-grandchildren Arriyanah Riddick, Alleiyah Moody, Landin Reddick, Charles Riddick, Jr., Jaylen Hayden, M’Kynleigh Reddick, Cristian Turrentine, Maxwell Riddick, Karis Robinson, Kynen Hayden, III, Madelyn Riddick, Reign Robison, Josiah Whitley, and two, great-great grandchildren, Aliek Anderson, Kayden Barbee.
Johnnie especially loved her time with the Durham Divas and the Dancing Dolls, the Women of Triumph. She also loved volunteering with the seniors of Durham.
Preceding Johnnie in death is her husband, Vernon Riddick, Sr., her mother, Mary Potter, sister, Dorothy Conner and niece, Sonya James.
