Michael DeWayne Simms “Zeke” was born on December 10, 1968 to Joslin Simms and the late Herman Mitchell, Jr.
When he attended Durham High School, he had a drawing chosen to be displayed in the United States Institute of Art. At the time of his death, he was employed with Risen
Construction Company. He, along with his brothers, was a loyal caregiver for their mother. Whenever a family member or friend needed help with repairs at their homes or with their cars, he was always there for them.
When asked to watch his grandchildren or his cousin’s son, he never complained. He loved family just that much … and his family loved him.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Shealor Lloyd and two brothers, Ray “Blaaak” Simms and Craig Owens all of Durham, North Carolina.
He is survived by his mother Joslin and two sons, Dwayne Nelson and Micquan Simms, ten grandchildren, all of Durham, North Carolina. Also survived by his sister, Mer Shae Mitchell-Cruz (Quaint) of Charlotte, North Carolina, His Brothers, Billy and Antwan (Shelieta) Simms of Durham, North Carolina, one uncle, Thomas Simms of Durham, North Carolina and three aunts, Lisa Simms, Ola Dixon and Ruth Bailey, all of Durham, North Carolina.
