Dorothy Mcallister Jenkins

Mrs. Dorothy M. Jenkins departed this life peacefully at her home on January 11, 2025, with family at her bedside. She was born March 26, 1934 in Cumberland County to the late Mary M. McAllister and Walter Street. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry C. Jenkins.

She was also preceded in death by her six siblings….Ms. Sarah Bates, Ms. Mary L. Melvin, and Ms. Annie R. Melvin, Mr. James A. McAllister, Mr. Benjamin Melvin and Mr. Walter Melvin.

She received her education in the Cumberland County School System. After relocating to New York, she lived and worked there until retirement. She was a Baptist by faith under the leadership of The Late Reverend Dr. E. Mitchell Mallette of The Greater Second Baptist Church of Freeport, New York.

Dorothy enjoyed traveling, working puzzles, cooking, serving food, and crocheting. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter Citricia Key, three Grandsons Michael Key of Durham, Christopher Key (Marissa) of Georgia, and James Key Jr. (Katrina) of Virginia. Three Great-granddaughters Madison Key and Taylor Key of Georgia, and Shatondra Smith (Teddy) of Florida. One Great Great-granddaughter Amora Jnbaptiste of Florida. Two Great Great-grandsons Kailon Jnbaptiste and Nehemiah Smith of Florida. One brother-inlaw Willie B. Heyward of Charleston, SC. Honorary Son (Nephew) Norman James Melvin. One Godson Reggie Bishop of Georgia. A host of other relatives, and friends.
