Calvin Bernett Harris Sr.

June 24, 1949 — April 22, 2025

In Loving Memory of Calvin B. Harris Sr. Calvin B. Harris Sr., 75, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 22, 2025, at UNC Hospital in Hillsborough, NC. Born on June 25, 1949, of the late Carl Coltrane Sr. and Margaret Louise Patterson. Calvin lived a life filled with love, hard work, resilience, and deep devotion to his family and friends.

Calvin spent his life as a dedicated commercial worker, truck driver and welder, always staying busy and on the move. Whether on the job or among loved ones, Calvin believed in doing things the right way — which often meant doing them his way. He was a man of action, strength, and determination.

Known affectionately to many as "Pop," he was famous for his saying, "Pop goes the weasel and the weasel goes Pop," bringing smiles and laughter wherever he went. He loved to sing and his favorite artist was Maze. Calvin never met a stranger. His arms were always open wide to welcome family, friends, and even those he had just met. His warm spirit and big heart created a lasting impact on everyone who crossed his path.

He is survived by his loving children: Daughter Scenitha Parker (Rickie) of Albemarle, NC, Son Calvin B. Harris Jr. (Elaine), Daughter Sharon Brown (Randy), and Daughter Yalanda Hayes (Kenneth), all of Durham, NC. He was a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought great joy and pride to his life.

Calvin also leaves behind his devoted siblings: Brother General "Pete" Waddell Sr. (Jackie) of Asheboro, Sister Torina Cheeks of Liberty, NC and Brothers Richard "Buster" Coltrane and James Coltrane, and Sister Vanessa Spinks all of Durham, NC.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughters, Margaret M. Goodson of Durham, NC, and Valarie Harris of Liberty, NC; his great-granddaughter, Kayla Turner of Albemarle, NC; four sisters, Cheryl Simmons, Sarah Anne Sprattling, Phyllis Thompson, and Myra Coltrane; and two brothers, Carl Brown Sr. and Tracy Coltrane.

Calvin B. Harris Sr. — “Pop” — will be remembered for his strong will, his kind soul, and the joy he brought into the lives of so many. His legacy of love and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
