Brenda Stevens Obituary


Brenda Stevens, of Durham, NC, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024. She was born on April 11, 1958, to Benjamin and Laura Davis. Brenda was the youngest of six children.


Brenda attended school in Warrenton, NC. After graduating high school, she attended North Carolina Central University, in Durham. It was in Durham that Brenda met and fell in love with Luther Stevens. On December 23rd, 1979, Luther married Brenda and they shared over 44 years of love.


Brenda managed a five-star home daycare for many years, building strong relationships and contracts with city and state departments. She was also a devoted pastor's wife, overseeing and counseling parishioners at New Greater Macedonia and Interfaith Outreach Ministry of Durham. Known for her nonjudgmental and inclusive care, Brenda also co-pastored churches and founded the International House of Prayer. Her dedication extended to serving as an advisor at Christ Jesus Tabernacle.

Brenda was "no nonsense" and flat footed in her convictions. She was stern, yet loving in her approach. Brenda had a reputation for having strong discernment and was commonly sought for her honest perceptions.


Brenda Stevens will be remembered for her humor, love, pride, honesty, resilience, unwavering spirit, and encouragement she shared with all who knew her.


Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Herbert Davis, mother Laura Christine Alston-Davis, and sibling Carl Darnell Davis, Sr.


She is survived by her loving husband, Bishop Luther M. Stevens, her children Luther & 'Stevie' Stevens II, Rev. Benjamin Stevens, JaQuan Scott all of Durham, NC; siblings Ruth Davis Freeman, Gloria Sandra Davis, Angelia Davis, all of Durham NC and Doris Elaine Steele (Michael) of Graham, NC; three grandchildren Destin Jordan Elijah Stevens, Joshua Jacob Emmanuel Stevens, and Benjamin Josiah Stevens and a host of relatives
