Annie Mae Harris Cooper

Annie Mae Harris Cooper was the third blessing born to the late Robert Lee and Julia Long Harris in Durham County, in a small town called Rougemont, NC.

Following graduation from Little River High School, she graduated in 1962 from North Carolina College in Durham (North Carolina Central University) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Office Education. She was an Educator in the Durham Public Schools System. After moving to Cleveland, OH she received a Masters of Education Degree from Cleveland State University. She was an Educator at Cuyaloga Community College and the Cleveland Public Schools System before retirement. She was inducted into the NCCU Society of Golden Eagles in 2012.

She was joined in Holy matrimony to Clarence L. Cooper and have four step children. She joined the Cleveland Seventh-Day Adventist Church and served as secretary of Sabbath school, member of the Usher board and Church treasure department. She also served on the Finance, Women’s, Education, Church school board and Hostess’ committees.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. Cooper; brother, Robert Harris, Jr.; sister, Mozel W. Harris; sister-in-law, Vercy B. Harris; brother-in-law, Kermit (K.P.) Parker; nephews, James (Jimmy) Harris, Christopher E. Johnson, and niece, Aeedah J. Hamidullah.

She leaves to cherish her memory sisters: Pauline Parker, Rosa (Edgar) Johnson, and Doretha (Matthew) Hamidullah, brothers: James (Pauline) Harris and David (Gayle) Harris, aunt, Myrtle R. Long; step children: Ricky, Anita, Jeffery and Andrea Cooper and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

Her greatest asset was her love for others.

Funeral services for Annie Mae Harris Cooper will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at New Red Mountain Missionary Baptist Church in Rougemont, NC. Rev. Dr. Larry G. Wilson will officiate. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Services are entrusted to Peaks & Waters Memorial Funeral Care.
